Configuring/Querying the Logs
Connecting to the Environment
- Login to Lifecycle Service: lcs.dynamics.com with an appropriate account.
- Find/Navigate to the project you'd like to connect to and select it.
- Find the appropriate environment (Prod/Dev/etc.) you need to connect to and select Full Details
- In the upper-right, select Login then Login To Environment
- This will open a new page where you're now connected to the environment.
Confirming the Log Settings
- In order for logging to be enabled/functioning properly, we need to define which tables/values/actions should be monitored.
- Select the menu item on the left and scroll/select System Administration
- Navigate to Database Log and Database Log Setup
- Here, you'll see all logging that is currently enabled for the system.
- If your specific needs are not being audited (they should be by default), select Newup top.
-
Note:Security Role changes are associated with permissions changes.
- Follow the prompts to fill out your logging needs and save.
Accessing/Querying the Logs
Note: I'm no expert at this, so you may have to fumble around a bit and figure out what works.
- Open the side menu once more and navigate to System Administration
- Under System Administration, find and select Inquiries --> Database --> Database Log
- Here, you'll see many log entries, but not all of them nor all their details.
- If you select a given entry and press the History button, you'll see some more details about that specific entry.
- However, if you'd like to search more deeply into the logs, press the Databse Log button up top (yes, I know it's redundant).
- This will give you a prompt to set a specific query and return type.

-
Destination - How you'd like to see the logs - can be Excel, CSV, directly to your screen, or others.
-
Records to Include - A filter :D
-
Run in the background - I dunno, looks like you can set some alerts and scheduled runs. I leave it untouched.
- Run your query and it'll do its thing.
- If you chose Screen as your destination, you'll get your results in the browser.
